If I'm being honest, I completely forgot that it's Fashion Week here in New York until I left the photo studio Thursday and kept passing people in what can only be described as the most ridiculous outfits. Peacocking and street style fame (or is it "infamy"?) tend to go hand-in-hand, after all.
But in leiu of those unfortunate get-ups of chunky socks with heels, crazy headgear, bedazzled feather vests or other sense-defying calling cards of deluded street "style" camera seekers, I pause instead to honor simplicity, sensibility, and comfort. Behold: classic winter layers, whose practical elegance can always be appreciated by those of us who deign to wear off the rack...and look damn good doing it. My picks:
*UPDATE: A helpful Pinterest commenter says this about the tweed coat: "I have this coat and I just want to share that it runs small, especially in the shoulders. If you plan to layer more than a denim shirt, you'll need to order 2 sizes up! I love mine, but can only wear it with t-shirts. Enjoy!"
